The aim for this project, just like my earlier Synthwave project, was to learn more of Serif Affinity Designer.

This particular project was aimed at making a minimalist Synthwave-like image, space was chosen as the topic and it was to use only outlines, black and white.

The style chosen resembles classic arcade games such as Astroids, a core nostalgic feeling that I waned to portray in this illustration.

I started by typing "SPACE" in the AR Destine font, a font chosen because of its 'spacy' futuristic look, the kerning was adjusted as the gap between the P and A was way too large.

After the text was placed, it was outlined white and placed on a black background.

A main planet was added to the corner with simply a circle.

Off the planet I made a shoot with the pen tool, this was to be a tiny rocket seemingly making its way into earths orbit, this time I got to adjust the lines gradient thickness, to allow the trail to be weak but get stronger towards the end.

Multiple asteroids were added by using the pen tool to outline real asteroids from image reference, this further added to the nostalgic feeling and the idea that this is space.

A second planet was added by the text.

A bright white gradient was added just behind the planet, placed just above the background layer so it would be behind all else, this was to be a sun rising behind the objects in front, this was to make the image more alive. In order to achieve the idea that the sun was behind the planet, the text and planet were filled black.

To add to the nostalgic feeling as feeling like a classic arcade game, and keeping with the style of Synthwave, a polygon asteroid was added to the edge, almost orbiting the planet, this was made with the pen tool, this object also bears some resemblance to the 'Black Knight Satellite', an urban legend of a silent unknown satellite orbiting earth.

This project I feel was successful, it helped me learn multiple new techniques and tools in Serif Affinity Designer and I feel the image looks good for what it is meant to be.
